What's The Difference ?

Linwood Cedar Homes - Panelised Post&Beam :-
The Linwood Custom Cedar Homes, have their main structural elements made up from treated timber wall studs and plywood, formed into wall panels, which support normally 'post & beam' roof structures, created using Douglas Fir 'Glu-lam' beams, supporting large section roof rafters. Our pictures below, show the erection process in it's initial stages, of an amended Ontario bungalow.
Main Picture - Panels erected and braced. From Top Going Anti-Clockwise - Glu-lam beam(s) lowered and fixed in place. Main beam running full length at top, is called the 'ridge beam'. Rafters are fixed in place between top of walls and ridge beam. Roof sheathing, plywood, is fixed over rafters.

Whatever the difference, your Log and Cedar home is stunning.

The Linwood Clearview
This system provides a simple construction format, whilst allowing great scope for some very dramatic design features. Our glazed 'prow wall' option; vaulted ceilings and huge flexibility of the internal layout, are just a few of the benefits available. This system also easily incorporates high levels of insulation, which is normally specified as 140mm glasswool to external walls, and 300mm to roof.

Linwood Cedar Homes - Traditional Timber Frame :-
structural frame
Linwood Traditional Timber Frame differs from the other Linwood systems, in that the structural frame is made up of an engineered timber skeleton, with the enclosing envelope chosen from alternative methods leaving the frame exposed internally, showing it's magnificence to all.
The skeleton is made up of individual frames such as the 'Queen Post Truss' shown here, which are assembled and link to other timber members, using traditional wood joints, and locked together using wood dowels. The external skin, including the roof, can be either framed with normal SPF timber studs / rafters and ply, or by the use of SIPs panels. The external walls can then be finished with our wide range of Western Red Cedar siding, as the Custom Cedar Homes, with the roof finished in any material you may wish, whether natural slate, or cedar roofing shakes.

Linwood Cedar Homes - Log Homes :-
(Including The Cedar Mill Collection)
Linwood Log Homes, are just that . . . homes made from solid logs, shaped and cut to perfectly interlock, providing stunning appearance and immense strength. Many companies offer log homes, with a wide choice of log sizes, shapes and timber species such as Pine, Spruce or Western Red Cedar.
However, in the UK, due to our building regulations relating to the thermal aspects of a home, using smaller log sizes of any species, usually necessitates that the insides of the log walls must be framed and lined with insulation, thus defeating one of the great features of a log home.
If Western Red Cedar is used, due to it's superior natural thermal benefits over other species, then having to line the internal face with insulation, can usually be avoided.
